Les FauxBourgeois

a classic, redesigned

  • The Les Faux Bourgeois dining room: wooden tables and chairs in front of a long red leather banquette, with chalkboard menus on the walls
  • A seared salmon fillet topped with fresh herbs in a bright green sauce, served in a white bowl on a wooden table

Summary

Les Faux Bourgeois (“Les Fauxbo”) is a long-running French bistro at 663 East 15th Ave, just off Fraser near Kingsway. It’s known for classic bistro food at fair prices in a loud, unpretentious room, and is now run by Gaia House, the team behind Nammos Estiatorio, Selene Aegean Bistro and AMA.

Challenges

where they started

Les Faux Bourgeois has a loyal following built over many years, but its website had been around for a long time too, and it was ready for a major redesign. Here’s what stood in the way:

  1. Challenge 1

The website was showing its age: its look and build dated back to the early 2000s.

  2. Challenge 2

It wasn’t built for phones, so menus and key details were hard to use on mobile.

  3. Challenge 3

The Gaia House team needed a site they could rely on, alongside AMA.

Strategy

step by step

  1. Step 1: Worked with the Gaia House team to understand what makes Les Fauxbo special.

  2. Step 2: Teamed up with our friends at Glasfurd & Walker, who came up with an amazing base for the design in Figma.

  3. Step 3: Brought that design to life with our own touch, rebuilding the site from the ground up around the bistro’s classic, lively feel.

  4. Step 4: Made the menu, hours and location easy to find on any screen.

  5. Step 5: Hosted the site and kept it supported, alongside AMA.

Results

the good part

A website as unpretentious as the bistro

Les Faux Bourgeois now has a modern website that feels like the room: classic, warm and easy to use on any screen. Guests can find the menu, hours and location in a few taps, and the Gaia House team has one partner looking after both Les Fauxbo and AMA.

  • Full redesign
  • Mobile friendly
  • One partner for Gaia House

Conclusion

in short

Les Faux Bourgeois is a neighbourhood institution, and its website should feel like one. Working with our friends at Glasfurd & Walker, who designed the base in Figma, we gave its long-serving website a full redesign, made it work on phones, made the essentials easy to find, and continue to host and support it as the bistro’s next chapter with Gaia House unfolds.
